Typical Day
Typical- we hope not! Serendipitous adventurer is our motto, but since curious minds want to know, a general plan for the day might look like this:
- Breakfast at our lodgings between 7–9 AM.
- Review the day over breakfast learning about route options, lunch options, and special activities. You will receive a Tour Book with detailed routes directions and a color highlighted map that notes landmarks, historic places, secret swimming holes, and local "must sees".
- Bike some of Virginia’s best bike routes along quiet backroads and trails. You set your own pace. Stop to take as many photos as you like, to talk to the farmer, or to identify wildflowers. It’s your day – do what you want!
- Enjoy a rest stop along the way at special location.
- Lunch in town or picnic lunch at a particularly scenic spot. There may be various route options after lunch. How are those legs feeling? Is it the direct route back to the inn, or is this the day to challenge yourself?
- Visit special places and museums.
- Afternoon relaxation at our lodgings – swim, read, explore town, massage.
- Social hour before dinner where we share the day’s adventures.
- Dinner around 7 PM. At most inns and restaurants we offer "choice of menu" dining. Vegetarian fare is always available.
- Continue socializing after dinner or maybe a moonlight evening walk before bedtime.
Each Virginia Odysseys vacation is planned with one simple goal – it must capture the essence of the region in which we’re cycling. The routes, the inns, the food, and the off-the-bike activities are all planned with this in mind. All our vacations are designed to bring our guests face to face with the real Virginia – its people, customs, cuisine, history and culture. Each day is decidedly different because we deliberately seek out, and welcome, serendipitous adventure!
The distillation of our travel philosophy boils down easily to five words – relaxation, rejuvenation, education, exercise, and fun. Come join our unique journey, where we hope there is no typical day!
