Virginia Odysseys

Blue Ridge Highlands

The Blue Ridge Highlands Region is defined as much by its music as its geography. The "Crooked Road,” Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, can be toured by bike and brings country and bluegrass music alive. At night you can tap your feet at the Floyd Jamboree. During the day, wonderful gently rolling byways along the Holston and other rivers offer scenic loops out of Bristol, Abingdon, Marion, and Damascus. You can even switch to off-road riding and experience two of Virginia’s great long distant trails – the New River Trail and the Creeper Trail. If you’re up for a challenge, tackle the Blue Ridge Parkway which runs through this region. Even though this region is know as the "Highlands,” there is plenty of leisurely cycling opportunities - if you know where to look.
