Stratford on the Potomac
|
The Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers form the backdrop for this weekend’s bicycle adventure. Our home base for the weekend, Stratford Hall, is located on the Potomac. It was the home of the Lees of Virginia and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Saturday, we’ll bike backroads through farmland, rural landscapes, and designated Virginia Byways enroute to visiting Wakefield, the birthplace of George Washington. During lunch at Ingleside Vineyards we will learn about award winning Virginia wines, complete with a tasting. We’ll have a special Halloween tour of the Great House at Stratford Hall – hope you are not easily spooked! Sunday, various mileage options highlighting the Potomac or the Rappahannock Rivers let you choose the distance you want to bike. You may choose a day off-the-bike and hike the wonderful trails throughout the 1900 acres at Stratford Hall. The end of October is generally the peak time for fall colors in eastern Virginia!
